Alexandre Marie Guillemin

(1817 - 1880 )

Guillemin was born on the 15th October 1817 in Paris. He studied under the tuition of Baron Gros. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1840, and he won medals there in 1841 and 1845. He was awarded the Legion d’Honneur in 1861. He was principally an artist of genre scenes. His favoured subjects being those of peasant life although he also painted the Bourgeoisie in particular from the Breton region. He died in Bois-le-Roi on the 24th October 1880. Today his works can be seen in the museums of Le Havre, Toulon and Montreal.
