Jules Jacques Veyrassat

(1828 - 1893 )

Veyrassat was born in Paris on 2nd July 1828. He was a pupil of Lehman and started exhibiting at the Salon from 1848, winning medals in 1866 and 1869 for engraving; a medal in 1872 for painting and he became a Chevalier of the Legion d’Honneur in 1878. He painted landscapes animated with figures and animals, mostly horses depicting agricultural work. Being an excellent engraver and colourist, he utilised these resources in his painting and had an honourable place amongst the artists of the Barbizon School. He died in Paris on 12th April 1893. His works are to be seen in museums in Bagneres, Beziers, Chateau Gontier, La Roche sur Yon, Lyon, Narbonne, Neuchatel, Pointoise, Valence, Reims, and Ypres.
