Adelsteen Normann

(1848 - 1918 )

Adelsteen Normann was born on 1st May, 1848 in Bodö. He came late to painting having forged a career in commerce. He went to Düsseldorf to study under Eugène Dücker from 1869 to 1873. He exhibited at the Berlin Salon and also at Düsseldorf, Vienna, Munich and London. He also exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1882 and obtained une mention honorable in 1884, and a bronze medal in 1889. He principally painted landscape scenes inspired by his love and knowledge of Norway and it's fjords. He developed a pointillist technique which beautifully complemented his choice of subjects. He died in 1818 in Oslo. His work can be seen in Cologne, Düsseldorf, Leeds, Liverpool and Sydney.
